OK i know this is going to sound harsh and rude , not my intentions at all , Katrina was 19 months ago , BILLIONS of dollars in aide has been poo red into the region . if some one at this point is still homeless or living in a motel . it's their own fault and should not get another dime in assistance
i have been to New Orleans at least 6 times since Katrina , and just as many times to Mississippi , it's stunning how after 19 months new Orleans is still a mess while Mississippi is up and running and people are getting their lives back together the only difference between the two places is the people of Mississippi got off their butts and took care of what needed done , while New Orleans continues to stand around with their hands out
I am tired of katrina people being called victums. Get a decent job and pick yourself up and get on with your life!
There is no reason she should be in a hotel. FEMA provides homes for persons effected by Katrina. With 4 kids she also qualifies for food stamps and medicaid. Stop feeling sorry for her and tell her to look for new alternatives.
Usually, the only way you can't get public assistance is if you did something wrong...ie: tried to defraud them, had an unauthorized person living in the household (especially if they are paying for your housing too). You may not be getting the whole story on this one.
If she really does need help, try churches.
I don't quite understand why she can't get some help through Public Aid. She obviously does not make enough at Dollar General to take care of 4 kids. What does a break in have to do with getting help? What about food stamps? There is no way she does not qualify for that.
it's nice you want to help, but come on. I have a number of friends who were hurt by hurricances. One of them lived in Florida and had her residence destroyed so she moved to Mississippi and proceeded to knocked out by Katrina. She lost everything TWICE and was still able to get back on her feet. The biggest problem with Katrina victims is not the federal government but the state and local government of New Orleans. She should have been in better shape by now.
