No they will not charge the card until check in. You need the card to guarantee the room, if you don't show up without canceling within the allotted time they will charge you for the room. If you have the CC number book the room on-line, then when you check in make sure you have the card and ID in hand, they will need it for check in. Or you can pay cash when you check in.

They will need the number of the card, which you won't have.
Your best bet would be to call the hotel and explain the situation. The point is that your credit card guarantees they get paid. No credit card = no guarantee= no thanks.
So call, or email, and explain what the problem is.
I work for a hotel. Generally if you making it on the hotel's site or with the hotel you will not be charged. But if you are making it on a 3rd party site such as Hotwire, Hotels.com, Expedia, Travelocity, Hotwire ect you will be charged at the time of the reservation.
