this depends entirely on what country you are in. In the USA it is customary to tip (what seems to me) EVERYONE. In australia tipping is rare and I only do it in a good restaurant when the service was exceptional.

Hotel employee who works at the Front Desk. They do not expect to be tipped.
Bellboys and Doormen get tipped all the time. Housekeeping personnel get tipped some of the time.
