Is it expensive to call a local Thai phone number from a hotel room in Thailand?

I want to use a calling card that requires you to call a local number in Bangkok. Is using the hotel phone going to be expensive for this? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes it is more expensive.

yes, for cheap call you should to a public phone and push 1234 before the number you want call, example you want to call to Phuket for 076-111-1111 then you just deal 12340761111111 it will be very very cheap, but if you want to call in the same province example i live in BKK and i want to call to my friend in bkk too so just deal normall number as 02-222-2222

it depends on your hotel- some charge a flat per call rate. Some hotels also block access to calling cards from your in room phone. It's simply much easier to pay the few extra baht and make the call from your room than to walk down to the street and try to use the right phone booth (that accepts your calling card).

We always arrange for our mobile phone to be set to Roam, and call from that to our local guide. It hasnt been very expensive, and on the odd occasion have rung him from our room and that wasnt expensive either.

Surely a lot more... buy international phone card at 7-eleven is much cheaper... G'luck

Yes it is. Go to a public phone and slot in a coin. Make your call, hang up and get your coin back. This will be cheaper, since you call a local number and some are toll-free.
