What is the Labor Board rate of pay for employees working for a hotel as a house keeper?

Where I work, as a housekeeper, we are getting paid a mere three dollars per room cleaned. We are constantly being ignored when it comes time to talk about the pay raises. The work has increased but not the pay.I simply don't like to be taken advantage of nor do I like to see others. This hotel does not ave a sense of order about it. We can not talk to the owner because she is"To busy". But what she and others fail to realize is that without the housekeepers, the guest would check in to a filty room. We are considered the back bone of the hotel industry. I just wanted to know what when minimum wages went up as well as the cost of living, why didn't our wages go up as well. I have ask the question but no one has yet to provide me with a just answer. Can you help a sister out?

Well, you don't say what state you live in, but you should start there, with your state's labor department. Also, are you paid like a waitress? Like I know waiters & waitresses used to be paid a lower hourly rate, with the reasoning that they earn tips, but I don't know if that even still applies, or more importantly, if it would apply to you. There is a federal minimum wage law, which I'm sure you are aware is much higher then $3.00 ph, and is why I asked how you are paid.

I manage a seasonal motel in New Jersey. My housekeepers are paid an hourly rate of $8.00-12.00 per hour, depending on experience, if any at all. They keep their tips, they don't have to "pool" them or split them in any way. What they earn, they keep. I truly value my staff, they show up every day, work hard (doing work I wouldn't want to do) and their tips reflect how good they are, or aren't at cleaning, And you are absolutely right, you have much more power then you think. Nothing worse then not having a room ready when a guest arrives. So, if I were you, I would first check with your state labor department then talk to the other housekeepers. see if you can get everyone's support. Next time you asked to talk and she is "too busy" tell her ALL of you are "too busy" to clean rooms, and will remain "busy" until she gives you the time you need from her. She sounds like a B***** to me, so fight back! Good luck to you and all the housekeepers out there trying to make a living!Oh! and THANK YOU, from someone who depends on your skills to make my job easier, and make my vacations better!
