What do employers look?
You don't need to know much in terms of "book smarts' but I would put being organized, cleanliness-oriented and very meticulous at the top of the list.
I worked for ONE DAY as a hotel housekeeper and wouldn't do it again even if it meant living under a bridge someday. That's the hardest job I ever had. You have a list of everything that must be done per room, and you have to do it within a certain amount of times, so that you can do all the rooms assigned to you by the end of your shift. I was crying by the end of the day, I'm not joking. It just seemed like I couldn't get anything right or do it well enough to please my trainer/supervisor. You're talking down on your hands and knees cleaning and scrubbing, and that's if you have a guest that didn't trash the place or have rough/messy sex or something equally awful that you have to clean up after.
Good Luck.
My daughter was a maid in a motel, along with an old lady who was a real problem, a young lady who talked to herself and heard voices, and a few types who seemed more normal.
The motel I stayed in last week seemed to have a lot of male housekeeper types, too.
Be aware that a lot of places don't pay housekeepers very well, and tips are often quite low.
Qualifications for the job of Maid:
A pulse.
Fully ambulatory.
That's about it. I speak from experiance. I went through a work-release program at our county jail. The girls there were all maids, and most were convicted felons. Have fun.
